Trailhead Coffee Roasters has been roasting craft coffee in Portland, Oregon since 2009.
We do it for the people:
the farmers, the coffee lovers & the communities around both.
We support farmers through paying a good price for craft-grade coffee harvested with love.
Most of our coffee relationships are direct trade
We support coffee lovers by roasting to bring out the best in those coffees. The art of roasting is essential but so is…art! You’ll notice package and label design that utilizes real hand drawn and hand painted art.
We support the coffee lover’s community through donations to schools and charities. We deliver to local markets/cafés via cargo bicycle and b-line pedal/electric tricycles. Why bother? Because fewer vehicles adds to safety, quiet and healthier air. Do we really need another diesel sprinter van moving through our city?
We support the farmer’s community through direct donations along with simply providing reliable income to the coffee farmers. We have supported the Café Femenino organization since 2009
Our intention is right on the bag with 3 simple words:
ETHICAL
Every one of our choices answers the question, “Is this the most ethical option?” Whether it’s bike delivery, green coffee sourcing, packaging or supporting local charities … we choose the best option for people and planet.
CRAFTED
Each batch of Trailhead coffee is roasted with care in small batches by hand, following a precise and repeatable roast profile. We simply release the magic already stored in the bean.
DELICIOUS
Sourcing delicious coffees that meet our ethical and sustainability standards is just the beginning. Finding out each bean’s secret is at the core of what we do. We find what makes each coffee special and bring that out in how we roast. It’s essential that the coffee is delicious and we make sure that it is… every time.
My intention in this business is simply to help people, namely coffee farmers mostly women, through commerce. Not charity but by simply seeking out and buying coffee and paying the farmers enough for a good life. And to do this while providing really superb coffee for your (and my) essential morning ritual? I punted on the usual metrics of success to dig into this simple model of being and have never looked back. Not an easy road but it’s the road I’ve chosen.
