rant

OK, on with the rant… Sometimes we get a rare and amazing coffee. And while yeah, sure, we’re in the business of selling stuff, there are moments when it’s more of wanting to share something with the world. This is where real artists live. When you see handmade ceramics, for example, and they’re like a lot of money, it’s easy to think that they’re rolling in cash. They never are. Selling mugs or vases at $50 or even $150 still doesn’t pan out into a living wage unless they’ve got support or another source of funding. I digress but this is a rant after all. The Pink is awesome. We found it…well it found us or should I say THEY found us. Daniel who farms this coffee and his whole family showed up at our roasting space and we chatted and fell in love with their coffee and really liked them as people. His Dad was humble and kind and it just felt like home. Really fucking cool to meet cats like this. Why they decided and had the nerve to ferment this coffee for a crazy 360 hours is just a mystical and delightful thing I shall never understand. But they did it, we cupped it and HAD TO HAVE IT. We battled to get the roast profile to properly bring out the flavors but we did it. I then had the insane notion to describe the aroma as “fallen apples on warm grass.” It’s absolutely there. That aroma is just oh so good. We made an instagram video of falling apples to celebrate it all. I felt pretty absurd tying apples to a not-apple-tree for the shoot. And the “Hops” in the video aren’t hops. They’ll are a sort of pine cone thing from a European Hornbeam tree. It took a million tries to get the apple to land and not roll somewhere far out of view. Yes, that’s my life. Dropping an apple and hoping it lands just right. Kind of fucked but also so great when the apple lands just right.
